Can people look at us and exclaim, "He or she must be a Christian".? Today, people talk more about things they ought to be first.
The make noise about prayer, fasting, giving, helping people, tithing, love for others, respect and honour but rarely would you find them doing any of these things with a pure heart.
We claim to love but our actions says other wise. A woman claims to love her husband, but never shows him respect.
Jesus told us to go into our closet and make prayers to the father if we must get answers. But what do we see today, people shouting, " I want to go and pray", they even go as far as judging the prayer life of others.
Some people go to church, and when it is time to take the communion for instance, they claim that the person with the tray is not pure, or a sinner.
The question I ask such people who say these things is that, "what did you go there to see or do"? Are you looking for God or for the sins of men?
Another flaw in the body of Christ today is found in people can't just keep quiet. They blab about almost everything.
What they see and did not see, would naturally flow out of their mouth. They go as far as judging matters after hearing just one side of the story.
Some even claim to love their brother, but they never show any form of sympathy.
Rather than give, all they are after is what they can get.
All these and many more constitute character flaws that we need to work at stopping before they stop us.
How do I them build character?
Many have assumed that immediately we give our lives to Christ, our character is immediately formed. That is not true.
What happens at new birth is that a new spirit is is given to us. You would agree with me, that having new fuel in your car is not always equal to a jolly ride.
The character of the car is not always a function of the fuel. This is why Romans 12:1-2 is so important.
Romans: 12. 1. I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Just the way we need to present our bodies, we also need to present our soul, which houses our mind, intellect, emotions and will.
These four component determine to a large extent, the quality of our character.
Allow me to say at this point that reputation is what you do while playing to the gallery.
Character is who you are when know one is watching your back.
Integrity is the resolution of your secret and public life.
Too many people go for reputation at the expense of character. They are one thing before God and other before men.
To build your character, there is need to be truthful to yourself. You are not qualified to demand the truth from others when you fail to demand it of yourself.
What we do in the secret is what moulds and shapes our character.
Character is the unchanging properties of a man under various situations or circumstances.
For instance, your character of faith would be questionable if under certain situations you choose to be "realistic" rather than stick to faith.
In building character, certain individuals must exit your life.
Also, certain individuals with high moral and spiritual standards must gain entry into your private space.
While you are building your character, look away from mockers. They would be around to create distractions.
You do not necessarily pray and fast to build character, all yoi need is the help of the holy spirit and consciously renewing your mind.
You need to educate your intellect. Read your bible consistently, listen to the word on tape and interact with people who build yoir faith.
You need to quality relationships that helps for stable emotional intelligence. Your network goes a long way in making you stable, emotionally.
Character flaws mostly take root from an unintelligent emotion.
Also, you need to learn how to make quality choices and judgments, which would strengthen your will.
Don't just take in everything at face value. Things are not always as they first appear. First impression don't always last long when character is missing.
Matthew: 26. 41. Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
What I believe this scripture is saying is that, we should think, then pray if we do not want to fall a victim of character deficiency.
Most people just pray, but rarely think. I make bold to say that, you will always have character issues if you do not invest in thinking.
Proverbs: 23. 7. For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee.
You are who you think you are privately or publicly.
